Garden & Tractor Cake

January 27th, 2009 by julie

A few weekends back we did a fun cake for a very special little boy turning 2. His mom informed us of his deep love for tractors, especially his “papa’s”! Here’s what we came up with:

After the party, Owen’s mom (one of our favorite customers, by the way!) emailed to let us know how the cake went over at the party. She said,

O my gosh!  Everyone loved, loved, loved the cake!  I’m serious, everyone raved about it.  They all said it was the most delicious cake they ever had.

Now, there were some debates..were the yellow and green jelly things like zucchini and yellow squash?  There were some arguments, some thought they were cucumbers, some thought yellow and green peppers, so we need you to settle this! O and the little tractor was the perfect size for Owen to share with all of his friends! Thanks again!  I cant wait for another cake event!

Yes, they were zucchini and yellow squash! We had a lot of fun picking out the little candies to make the “veggies” in the garden. We used speckled popcorn-flavored Jelly Bellies for potatoes, red M & Ms for radishes, purple Jelly Beans for eggplant, not to mention the other unknown candies for carrots, beets, and the squash! The garden soil was crushed Oreo cookies, and the dirt path was brown sugar. We carved the tractor out of vanilla cake, and used chocolate cake circles for the wheels, and a York Peppermint patty for the steering wheel.
